Antioxidant potential (AOP) values and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were measured in blood samples to investigate oxidant/antioxidant status of gastric cancer patients. Serum AOP value and MDA levels were found to be significantly higher in cancer patients than those of controls (28.875±11.472 vs 17.770±6.053 for AOP, p<0.0005 and 5.735± 1.583 vs 2.274±0.204 for MDA, p<0.0005) Results show that there is an oxidant stress in gastric cancer patients even though serum AOP seems increased.
