The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the perceived pain intensity and stress symptoms, tendency to stress and coping styles of migraineur women. The subjects were 40 volunteer migraineur women with mean age 39.05 ± 11.70 years. The patients completed a set of questionnaires assessing stress symptoms, tendency to stress and coping styles. A visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to assess pain intensity during migraine attacks. A significant correlation was found between the results of VAS, muscular problems, and symptoms related to parasympathetic and sympathetic systems (subscales of stress symptoms) whereas no correlation was found between VAS and the other subscales of stress symptoms. Furthermore, there was no significant correlation between VAS and tendency to stress or coping styles. © 2005 VSP.
