In this article, we present the results and characteristics of the perioperative rehabilitation program applied to 23 patients with rheumatoid arthritis, having hand or wrist surgery. The patients received different rehabilitation programs according to the type of the operation. Alterations in pain, range of motion, grip strength and level of disability in daily living activities were assessed after a mean follow-up period of 18 months. Satisfactory results were obtained in all assessment parameters of 19 patients, indicating an overall success rate of 83%.
