It is well known that small changes in polymer properties or in operation variables are known to cause large changes in fiber properties. Thus, understanding of the interrelation ships between the operation conditions and fiber properties is essential. For this reason, the identification of a regression equation for boiling shrinkage has been examined in a commercial partially oriented yarn (POY) spinning plant. A two level factorial industrial experimental design was used to identify these models. Three independent variables which have an effect on boiling shrinkage were used. These were yarn winding speed, spinneret flow rate and spinneret hole diameter. Boiling shrinkage was chosen as the dependent variable. The values of the constants in the regression equation were calculated by applying the least-squares estimation technique. Student's "t" and. Fisher's "F" tests were applied to see whether the identified statistical equation fits the experimental data.
