The seasonal changes in total carbohydrates, fructose, glucose and sucrose in the bark tissues of 'Tombul', 'Palaz', 'Kalinkara', 'Calildak' and 'Sivri' cultivars. grown in the eastern and western Black Sea regions were determined by HPLC. As with other fruit species, fructose, glucose and sucrose levels decreased from the end of spring to summer, showed steady changes with the lowest values in summer and increased from mid-autumn until winter. Despite the general tendency for decline during the spring, the soluble sugar contents of Sivri increased in the Duzce region in April. Annual changes in fructose, glucose and sucrose in different regions and cultivars did not show significant differences. The differences between the regions and the cultivars were prominent in the autumn and winter months. The sucrose level was higher in December and January in Duzce, which has lower winter temperatures than Giresun. The opposite results were obtained for other sugar contents except for the glucose contents of 'Kalinkara' in December. Differences between regions during the winter period occurred mostly in the 'Palaz', 'Cakilak' and 'Sivri' cultivars. In January the sucrose level was also higher in these cultivars than in the others.
