Özet

This study was carried out to examine the status of sodium in greenhouse soils and irrigation waters and to devise reclamation methods for the soils having high salt in the Kumluca and Finike regions, Turkey. For these purposes, a total of 72 soil samples, 0-20 and 20-40 cm depths, and 36 irrigation water samples were taken from 36 greenhouses in these two regions. In the soil samples, pH, CaCC>3, texture, organic matter, EC, cation exchange capacity and exchangeable Na were analysed and exchangeable Na % was calculated. In the irrigation water samples Na, K, Ca and Mg were determined and Na % was computed. Both the Na content of most of the irrigation waters used in the greenhouses and the exchangeable Na content of most soils (-97%) were found in low levels that would not be detrimental to plant growth. A high exchangeable Na problem in soils was observed in greenhouses close to the seaside and in those in which irrigation waters were obtained from wells with a high Na content. The most common problem in the greenhouses of these regions is soil salinity and the solution to this problem is soil leaching before the next cropping season. As a result, we can conclude that there is no need to use commercial reclamation products in these regions. These products, however, should be used in soils which have high exchangeable Na content.
