Abstract

© 2021 Parlar Scientific Publications. All rights reserved. This study was accomplished to identified reactions of some oat cultivars to salinity and drought stress during early growth stage. The cultivars which were used in this experiments, are very critical cultivars in Turkey oat breeding and production. Distilled water was used as a control group, the different levels of salinity (3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 g"1 NaCl) and the different levels of drought (5%, 10%, 15% and 20% PEG 6000) was used for creating salinity and drought stress conditions, in the same vein. The completely randomized design with three replication was applied to the mean values of the parameters for varience analysis. There are six germination prediction parameters which were analyzed in the study. Using these parameters, stress tolerance index and stress sensitivity index values of oat cultivars were calculated. In the light of the results, the differences of cultivars, stress levels and cultivar x stress level interaction were significantly different in both salinity and drought stress for all parameters examined (except germination speed on NaCl stress). Even though Checota showed good performance up to high drought stress levels (5% and 10%) where the drought stress is at higher, Faikbey and Seydisehir followed under high-stress levels. Faikbey had the most stress sensitive cultivar than the others in the study to salinity stress. It was determined that Checota has more tolerant to salinity stress than other cultivars at germination stage.
