Özet

Arabic linguistics began to be formed with individual efforts since 1st century of Hijrah. The Kitāb al-Ayn, which emerged in the period following this formation process, especially in the Hijri 2nd century, paved the way for a important and comprehensive subbranch of Arabic linguistics with its contributions to linguistics beyond being a dictionary. This is undoubtedly Arabic lexicology. The similarities with the works that came after it make the pioneering of the work undeniable. Even though the books written in this field were created with the Arabic mind and knowledge, they were tried to be optimized in terms of system and order for the Arab mind and those who are interested in the Arabic language. For this purpose, the given works have adopted different syntax categories, and this classification activity focuses on the letters to be taken into account during the syntax of the dictionary items and the direction in which they are considered as well. One of these categories is the dictionaries that are based on the last letter of the word root. This category, which consists of artistic concerns, ease of access of non-Arabs and the fact that the last letter is mostly not changed due to Arab language morphology, is although known with the language scholar of the 4th century of Hijri, Abū Nasr Ismā'īl ibn Hammād alJawharī (400/1009), the claim of our work is Al-Yamān b. Abi'l-Yamān Abū Bisr al-Bandanījī who died in 284 Hijri is the first language scholar to write a dictionary in this category. The work of this linguist scholar, whose work has not been sufficiently studied, is Kitāb al-Taqfiya fī al-Lugha. This study aims to present the data obtained from the researches in the related field and to determine the deserved position of Kitāb al-Taqfiya fī al-Lugha in Arabic lexicology in the light of these data.
