Özet

Liquid biopsy is increasingly transforming precision oncology by enabling minimally invasive tumor profiling, treatment monitoring, resistance detection, surveillance, and clinical trial enrollment. At the 2026 ASCO Annual Meeting, liquid biopsy remained a prominent area of research, with nearly 300 abstracts spanning circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), methylation, fragmentomics, micro-RNA (miRNA), and other emerging biomarkers. In this editorial, prepared on behalf of the Young Committee of the International Society of Liquid Biopsy, we highlight selected studies from ASCO 2026 and discuss their clinical relevance, distinguishing throughout between applications that are already standard of care, such as plasma genotyping for molecular profiling and resistance detection in advanced disease, and those that remain investigational, including perioperative MRD assessment and ctDNA-guided treatment adaptation. Throughout, we assess whether the available evidence supports the clinical validity of an assay or demonstrates its clinical utility. We also consider the practical factors that may influence its adoption in routine care, including cost, reimbursement, turnaround time, laboratory infrastructure, and equitable access across healthcare systems.
