No incision transvaginal retropubic urethropexy for the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence

Abstract

From August 1991 until April 1994, a total of 45 simplified double-needle bladder neck suspensions for genuine stress incontinence were performed to assess the effectiveness and perioperative morbidity of the procedure. After a mean follow-up of 26 months, the cure rate was 82.2%. The average operating time was 20.4 min, and the average hospital stay was 2.4 days. The main intraoperative complication was suture in the bladder in 10 (22.2%) patients, and the main postoperative complication was urinary retention in 7 (15.5%) patients. We believe that the fast operative time, relatively high success rate, acceptable morbidity, and technical simplicity make this an ideal operation for the correction of stress urinary incontinence.
