In the context of foresights of "The Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage" on education, one hour elective "folk culture" course has been put into action for Primary Schools (6. 7. 8. grades) of Ministry of National Education since 2006-2007 school year. This expansion has been the first positive step about the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in the formal education field. The Convention of the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage which has been a current issue with UNESCO and process that is connected to the convention has the important contribution to this expansion. Definitely, convention's suggestions about encouraging the education is not limited only with the formal education. "Folk Culture Course" will constitute an important ground for the informal education when the age of "Folk Culture Course" students is considered. In this text, basic grounds of the course, preparation period of "Folk Culture Course Teaching Program", structure of the course and future requirements are considered.
