Özet

Reading in a foreign language improves vocabulary, writing, and listening skills. As a result, reading is a vital skill and practice for teaching Russian as a foreign language. When it comes to selecting materials for the lessons, evaluating the suitability of texts for the language level is a stage that remains relevant and requires effort. The process of determining the level of the text according to CEFR standards (from A1 to C2) is explained and defined through methodological studies. Therefore, automatization of this process is possible. The selection of texts that are suitable for the level of the student in reading activity is a very important criterion for the motivation of the students and the continuity of language development. It is a time-consuming and workload-increasing process for teachers to analyse the suitability of the texts to lexical minimum standards, grammatical subjects taught in the lessons, and the topics determined by State Standards for Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language, which are compatible with CEFR standards. For this reason, using the programme named “Textometr”, which is developed by A. N. Laposhina and M. Yu. Lebedeva, the specialists who work at Pushkin Institute, for automatic determination of the level of Russian texts is one of the methods to ease teachers’ workload and increase the efficiency of the lessons. The aim of the study is to explain the opportunities offered by the Textometr programme and the ways of using this tool. In the study, the “Textometr” programme is examined and the opportunities of the programme are exemplified through B2 level text “Birthday Celebrations in Russia” (Rus. Празднование дня рождения в России). Explanation and programme analysis methods, empirical method, comparative analysis, and expert opinion methods are used in the study.
