3rd International Symposium on Olive Growing, KHANIA, Yunanistan, 22 - 26 Eylül 1997, ss.51-54
The semi hardwood cuttings of one of the most important black and green olive cultivars of Turkey, Gemlik (easy-to-root) and Domat (difficult-to-root) were treated with rooting promoters and placed for rooting into Shaded Polyethylene Tunnel (SPT) for 90 days. At 15- day intervals, samples were collected from SPT and examined for levels of endogenous carbohydrates (total sugar and starch). The wood, cortex and leaves of each cuttings were analyzed separately. Total sugar content was generally higher in Domat. The cuttings from 1994 (the "on" year) and on the 90(th) day had less total sugar compared with those from 1995 (the "off" year) and on the 15(th) day, respectively. Treatments did not have significant effects on the total sugar content of cuttings. The highest sugar content was observed in leaves. The endogenous starch content of cuttings was found to be lower in 1994 while the metabolic activity in root and stem formations was higher during this pear. Treatments did not have any significant effects on the starch content of the cuttings.
