Fast disintegrating/dissolving tablet formulations are solid dosage forms which disintegrate/dissolve less than 1 minute without any need of additional water or chewing when they are placed in mouth. They are absorbed by blood vessels and bypasses the hepatic first-past metabolism if the active drug can be absorbed from the oral mucosa. Thus FDTs are used as the first choice in situations requiring emergency intervation. Patients with swallowing difficulties, such as pediatric and geriatric patients and people with mental disorders, people who has sudden allergic attacks, patients suffering from motion sickness and nausea, can easily use FDTs. FDTs provide ease of use, ease of production and has a positive effect on patient, accordingly several FDT technologies has been developed.
