© 2018, © 2018 Nature Research Centre.Lucilia sericata Meigen, Calliphora vicina Robineau-Desvoidy and Chrysomya albiceps Wiedmann (Diptera, Calliphoridae) are fly species which bear medical, veterinary and forensic importance. Since data of the distribution of these species are not available in Algeria, the present article reports on the spatio-temporal occurrence of these flies. Records compiled between 2010 and 2016 were obtained from field surveys using baited traps and/or animal carcasses, as well as samples collected from human bodies and personal contacts. L. sericata is present during warm to high temperatures. C. vicina is recorded in warm to cool temperatures. L. sericata and C. vicina are widely distributed throughout Algeria in the humid, subhumid, semi-arid and Saharan bioclimatic zones. Ch. albiceps favors warm to hot temperatures and is present in the humid, subhumid and semi-arid climatic regions. L. sericata, C. vicina and Ch. albiceps are present in all habitat types. Our own results from a one-year survey conducted in urban and forest habitats show that L. sericata has a preference for spring followed by autumn and summer while C. vicina prefers winter. Hopefully, these results will provide baseline data for further studies of the spatio-temporal distribution of necrophagous Diptera in Algeria.
