Cancer is one of the most serious global health issues, affecting millions of people worldwide. Although lots of nanotechnology-based research has been for cancer treatment in recent decades, a more specialized strategy is required. The simultaneous implementation of diagnosis and treatment modalities has given rise to new prospects for cancer therapy, which is extremely complicated difficult and often failed. Multifunctional nanosized carrier systems merged diagnostic and therapeutic components on a single platform have unique advantages of nanoscale size and functionalization capacities, such as improved biodistribution, enhanced permeability, and retention effect or targeting while also enabling the monitoring of the responses to the treatment and disease status. This chapter reviewed various polymeric/nonpolymeric theranostic nanosized systems and the opportunities it provides for the treatment of cancer.
