Abstract

The inhibitor effect of the amino acids on the corrosion of nickel in sulphuric acid medium was investigated. Thirteen amino acids with different properties were used. Corrosion current densities were determined by the extrapolation of the cathodic Tafel region to the corrosion potential. The effect of the amino acids on the passivity of nickel was examined by anodic current-potential curves. It was revealed that some amino acids are inhibitors to various degrees for nickel but that others accelerate corrosion.
