Taguchi's method is a methodology based on the orthogonal arrays (OAs) concept, which effectively reduces the number of test iterations required in an optimization process. Even though the method is widely used for different applications of chemical engineering, power electronics and many industry areas, there are only a few applications of Taguchi method in electromagnetic theory. In this study, the usage of Taguchi method for the electromagnetic problems is explained, and a step by step illustration of this procedure is described via an example of rectangular microstrip patch antenna design. The results obtained show that antenna design parameters are extracted successfuly. According to results of this paper, it can be concluded that Taguchi method is an easy-to-implement algorithm achieving optimal solutions. ©2010 IEEE.
