Özet

This paper elicits an interpretation of educational developments and discussions related to the educational system in Turkey since 1923 (Republican Era), in terms of political and ideological levels that exercise power to control education. Regarding education as a power for constituting new nations, the relations of power and education in Turkey since Republican Period (1923) to the current day will be discussed in this paper. The paper will start with the conceptual framework, whereby education is considered as an arena for struggle in the public sphere based on developments in the reform of the Turkish educational system since 1923. The paper provides a brief outline of a century of Turkish education, and the impact of external powers on educational policies.
