Özet

Sister chromatid exchange (SCE) is a sensitive cytogenetic test used for screening mutation caused by endogenous and exogenous agents. Many physical and biological factors are known to be responsible for variations in SCE values, including sex steroids. To evaluate the effect of sex steroids, SCE analysis was done on 20 healthy, young, female non-smokers during four different times of their menstrual cycle. The results were matched with SCE values of 10 healthy, young, male non-smokers. SCE analyses were also carried out on peripheral blood with the addition of a known mutagen. Statistical analyses revealed no significant differences in SCE values between males and females.
