Özet

After the WWI, Hungarians shared the same defeat with the Ottomans against the Entente States. Among the defeated states, only Turkey didn't sign the Sevres Agreement and declared to fight for the country, so the War of Independence began. The freedom revolt of Ankara was carefully monitored in all over the world, as well as in Hungary. This article aims to analyze how the War of Independence is represented in three Hungarian newspapers: Pesti Hirlap, Nepszava, and Az Est. In this study, 60 news pieces and articles analyzed with qualitative text analysis method. The content analysis revealed that in the opinion pieces, the War of Independence had been received positively, and with an emotional attitude. However the news contents were tend to be neutral and they were based on a factual level rather than emotional. This article aims to contribute to the literature of the War of Independence and also to the literature of history of Hungarian Journalism.
