Özet

In this study, it was aimed to determine the effects of sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) extract on jejunum and ileum smooth muscle of Wistar albino mice of at least 2 months age in vitro by using an isolated organ bath. The effects of aceytlcholine EC(50), bethanechol EC(50), atropine (10(-8)-10(-7) M) and 0.1-6.4 mg/ml concentration of the sainfoin extract were administrated alone and in combinations to jejunum and ileum. Furthermore, the effects of histamine and nicotine on jejunum and ileum were studied. Extract (6.4 mg/ml) has inhibitory effects on the smooth muscles of mice jejunum and ileum; the contractions of aceytlcholine EC(50) and bethanechol EC(50) was decreased by the presence of the extract at 3.2 and 6.4 mg/ml concentrations. The inhibitory effects of the extract at 6.4 mg/ml concentration was decreased by the presence of atropine. These results indicate that this plant acts as an antimuscarinic agent. The effects of the plant extract on the receptors of intestine were probably mediated due to its active components, especially flavonoids.
