Internal forces and moments acting on the sections of the femur and caput femoris were measured in a patient with a necrotic femoral head using the assumptions made by Inman and McLeish/Charnley. Computations were carried out for 3 types of osteotomies (Pauwels, L. Muller II, Castaing III) and they are compared from the biomechanical and geometrical viewpoints. It is concluded that the forces in muscles and he hip joint decrease considerably; however these decreases are approximately the same for the 3 types of osteotomies while the changes in length of the leg are different in each case.
