A preliminary study has been made on allergenic-pollen producing and possibly allergenic-pollen producing plants from the standpoint of their prevalence, type, and pollination, in the Ankara area. A botanical field survey of the Ankara area revealed the absence of ragweed, but showed that a member of the family Asteraceae (Compositae), Artemisia, covers quite a large area. Out of the thousand species of which the Ankara flora consists, there were investigated a number of fifty-five. Though some of these are entemophilous, we believe they have heavy pollen-production and may be responsible for some of the allergic disorders in certain parts of the city of Ankara. Among the allergenic grasses, Cynodon dactylon, Phleum pratense, Poa; among the weeds Artemisia and Salsola kali, and among the trees Populus, Salix platanus, Quercus, and Ulmus are considered the most common of the allergenicpollen producing plants in this area. © 1968.
