Özet

Abstract

In recent years, nano-sized drug carrier strategies have been extensively used with the purpose of drug targeting for the treatment of various diseases, due to their ability to deliver active molecules more efficiently and effectively to the target site at relevant doses and times. Among the many drug delivery strategies, polymeric nanoparticles and liposomes are the most investigated and popular classes of nanocarriers proven by high numbers of research reports. However, both liposomes and biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles have some drawbacks and principle limitations. To overcome these limitations and also combine the advantages of both systems, an integrated drug delivery platform named core-shell lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticles have been developed. This new generation drug delivery system has involved the architectural advantages of polymeric core structure and the biomimetic characteristics of liposomes. From this perspective, this chapter describes the importance and the place of core-shell type lipid-polymer hybrid nanosystems as a novel drug targeting strategy. Some selected applications that have been realized within the past 10 years will also be investigated from the analytical point of view, such as evaluation of the preparation technologies, and in-vitro and in-vivo characterization parameters of these nanocarriers.
