The infinitesimal deformation approach has been applied to analyze the crystallography involved in face centered cubic to orthorhombic martensitic transformation with the (101)[101] lattice invariant shear system. The crystallographic parameters such as habit plane orientation, shape strain, orientation relationship between parent and product phases, etc. have been derived in a simple and analytical manner. In order to discuss infinitesimal deformation approach's implication and practical applicability, the crystallographic parameters for the formation of ordered orthorhombic AuCu 11 plates from disordered cubic in Au-Cu have been numerically compared with those calculated from the phenomenological crystallographic theory and experimental observations. Moreover, the infinitesimal deformation approach offers simple and clear picture of computations. The present study demonstrates this point as well.
