The article examines urban social movements that became an important agenda in the world politics by suburban movements in France were seen firstly in 1870's. A new example of urban movements in 21(st) century is Paris suburban movements. The author says that we can classify the results of urban movements under 3 main themes: 1. problems caused by public consumption; 2. the demand of self administration; 3. advocating of ethnical or cultural identity. In order to understand suburban movements in France, we have to investigate the past experiences of urban political movements by taking account of basic characteristics of urban political movements seen in the past in European and USA. Glasgow tenant resistance in England, Veracruz tenant movements in Mexico, Grand Ensembles and urban renewing project in France, ghetto movements in USA, squatter housing movements in Latin America, Madrid citizen movements in Spain were examples of urban movements seen in the last times in Europe. There were the other examples of urban movements were seen apart from the examples above in the world. So, In this article, some important urban political movements in the world were investigated. Besides, the basic characteristics of urban movements were determined and Paris suburban movements interpreted. Thus, it is concluded that new urban political movements will be seen in the other European countries in the future.
