Özet
This study investigates the impact of Choice-Based Art Education (CBAE), a contemporary approach to art education, on students’ artistic creativity, tendency toward innovative thinking, and attitudes toward visual arts classes. The research was conducted with sixth grade students at a public middle school in Turkey, involving an experimental group (n = 30) and a control group (n = 26). Utilizing a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design, students in the experimental group received visual arts instruction aligned with the principles of CBAE, while those in the control group followed a traditional, teacher-centered art curriculum based on the existing national program. The findings revealed statistically significant differences in favor of the experimental group across all three measured outcomes—artistic creativity, innovative thinking tendency, and attitudes toward the visual arts course. In other words, CBAE proved to be a more effective approach in enhancing students’ creativity, fostering their inclination for innovative thinking, and improving their overall attitude toward the subject. The results highlight the potential of CBAE as a context-sensitive approach that fosters creativity, innovative thinking, and positive attitudes in visual arts education.
