In this study, garments, which are designed to prevent damages originated from electrostatic discharge (ESD), are considered; and analyses are performed in order to determine the parameters for those garments. The history of the ESD protective garments is overviewed, and information about the standardization is presented. Possible knit topologies for ESD protective garments are determined, and their requirements are discussed. The parametric analysis results of the proposed topology are also demonstrated in this study. Results of the static analysis show that the proposed garment topology achieves sufficient ESD protection; and the most cost and weight-effective protection performance is achieved via aluminum as the conducting material and high permittivity cotton as insulator.
