In the study, cervical tissue samples from the anterior, middle and posterior regions of the cervix from 10 cows in early pregnancy (up to 3 months) and 10 in mid pregnancy (between 3-6 months) were used. The cervical epithelium was found to be composed of ciliated and secretory cells. The cells in all three regions of the cervix were observed to be much taller and the amount of secretions greater in mid pregnancy than in early pregnancy. The mucous granules of the secretory cells in showed dense core structures in mid pregnancy.
