Özet

This study was performed in AUMS, Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, to determine the rate of seroprevalence in aseyptomatic, healthy Turkish children, aged between 6 months and 5 years old. Sixty children and their parents enrolled in the study to evaluate the rate of seroconversion, living conditions and socio-economic levels which are very important factors in influencing distrubution patterns in different populations. All individuals enrolled in the study were screened for anti Helicobacter pylori IgG positivity with commercial ELISA; the data on living conditions and socio-economic levels was collected by questionnaire. Overall seropositivity rate among children in the study was found to be 73.33%. With mothers and fathers having 98.33% and 100% seropositivity rates respectively. Statistical analysis of questionnaires was more indicative of intrafamilial dissemination of the infection rather than direct socioeconomic conditions. Although the mode of transmission of H.pylori is not entirely known as yet, social patterns and intrafamilial dissemination are consistent as important indicators.
