Özet

Memory studies have been carried out intensively in the field of cultural studies and brain research, especially in the last two decades. The changing socio-political and economic balances in the world, the power of the media, suffering of different disasters and the demands of confrontation / questioning of societies after World War II lie among the most important reasons for the multidisciplinary studies of memory in the field of social sciences. The political conditions in the context of the post-World War II and the fall of the Berlin Wall have led to the consideration of memory studies as an interdisciplinary, cultural and international subject of research. Present study is aimed to explain how the memory explosion in Germany has gained momentum as it is seen in other European countries in recent years. At the same time, the importance of the concepts of history consciousness and national identity are also examined in the study.
