Özet
We demonstrate that applying moderate uniaxial compressive loads to a confined spin crossover (SCO) complex can induce a giant caloric effect. Isothermal entropy changes (ΔS) and adiabatic temperature changes (ΔT) have been determined using both direct and quasi-direct methods. For a moderate applied stress of 95 MPa, values of ΔS = −130 J kg−1 K−1 and ΔT = 6.8 K are obtained, while at 160 MPa, ΔT reaches 14.4 K. The low levels of stress and strain required to achieve such a giant caloric effect result in a high Coefficient of Performance (COP = 52) which far exceeds those of state-of-the-art elastocaloric materials. Our results are comparable to those observed under hydrostatic pressure, establishing uniaxial loading as a technically simpler and effective approach to exploit large caloric effects in SCO materials.
