This study presents a novel system consisting of a supernumerary robotic thumb and a virtual reality-based mirror paradigm in a leader-follower mode. As the extra thumb skeleton, a planar robotic mechanism with two degrees of freedom is utilized. The experimental setup poses the task of acquiring proficiency in controlling the supernumerary second thumb throughout a five-day duration of engaging in the leaderfollower game. There is evidence that after five days of practice, a subject's motor performance improves and motor variability decreases.
