The biological oxidation of isomeric aromatic diazines (e.g. pyrazine, pyrimidine, pyridazine) has been studied using hepatic washed microsomes from various mammalian species. A mono-N-oxide was formed from each isomeric diazine with different efficiency. The N-oxide metabolites produced were characterized by comparison of their TLC and HPLC characteristics and their MS and UV spectra with those of authentic compounds.
