Özet

The aim of this study was to describe and examine the professional socialization of 2 visually impaired physical education teachers. Lawson's (1983a, 1983b) theory of professional socialization has been used to examine the unique experienced socialization processes of visually impaired physical education teachers. While this research provides new information to the field about the pre-service socialization and in-service teaching experiences of visually impaired physical education teachers, it also strives to expand the knowledge in the cultural context. So, our research questions were: (a) What were the perspectives and practices of visually impaired physical education teachers? and (b) What factors influenced these perspectives and practices? In this case study, data were collected using semi-structured interviews and  biographys and analyzed using analytical induction and continuous comparison. While both teachers did not have the idea of a physical education career during the acculturation period, they enrolled the sports management department in Sports Sciences Faculty from the national athlete quota. After completing a double major in the faculty, they turned to a career as a physical education teacher. One of them started to work as a physical education teacher in a special education school and the other in a public school. Both began their school culture (organizational socialization) with a teaching orientation. Contrary to what Zeichner & Tabachnik (1981) stated, visually impaired physical education teachers started their teaching careers despite the resistance, with teaching-oriented perspectives and practices.
