Özet

The purpose of this study is to determine scaling of the first grade high school students' success of placement exam (SBS) factors that were considered to be effective with the law of rank order judgement scaling model. The research was conducted on Gazi Anatolian High School which is in the first place among the high schools which are preferred by students with high SBS score on 2011-2012 academic year in Ankara. The data were obtained from 144 females and 106 males for a total of 250 students who entered the SBS in 2009, 2010 and 2011. In the research, a data collection tool was used, which consist of the questions aimed at determining characteristics of the student, and scaling questions. According to the findings, individual characteristics, such as self-confidence, ambition, attention and motivation, is one of the factors that were considered to be effective in SBS success. This was followed, respectively, the students' study method and the support which is taken from the family, friend, etc. while preparing to the SBS. Private course, solving question and the teacher support are less effective factors on exam success. Besides, the students have put the social activities such as reading book and spare time for themselves to the last rank.
