Abstract

The authors investigate the modelling, optimization, and control of a batch polymerization reactor in which polymerization of styrene initiated by benzoyl peroxide takes place, at different operating conditions. The polymerization kinetics and physical properties of the polymer obtained are determined and the mathematical model of this system is solved by using the data obtained from experimental-studies. The optimization of the batch polymerization reader is then carried out, and the performances of IMC and PID controller are compared. The performance of IMC was found to be better than that of PID.
