Özet

Sum-mary Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) caused by Nairoviruses, member of Bunyaviridae family, has a high risk of mortality in humans. CCHF virus spreads through tick bite, or direct exposure to infected animal or human blood, body fluids or other infected tissues. Clinical features of the illness are fever, bleeding and myalgia. Laboratory findings include elevated levels of liver transaminases, lactate dehydrogenase, creatinine phosphokinase and prolongation of bleeding tests. Early diagnosis and supportive treatment is important. There are some study reports showing useful effects of ribavirin; however there is no consensus on that matter. CCHF has been seen in Turkey since 2002. 3135 cases and 155 deaths have been reported until the end of 2008. Efforts are now under way to control the CCHF outbreak in Turkey.
