Özet

In this study, a new species belonging to the genus Cyclotrichium of the family Lamiaceae, adapted to serpentine soils, is described and illustrated from Kayseri and Adana provinces, Türkiye. Morphologically, Cyclotrichium tulayae is similar to C. glabrescens in features such as stem branching, leaf shape, calyx, and corolla size. However, it differs in stem height, leaf size and hair type, bract size and shape, bract and bracteole margin, calyx size and tooth structure, corolla lobe color, nutlet size and shape. The new species is also similar to C. stamineum, but it can be distinguished from the latter by stem height and branching, stem hair type, leaf size, bract and bracteole margin, calyx tooth size, corolla lobe color, and nutlet shape. However, according to phylogenetic analyses of nuclear ribosomal ITS sequences, C. tulayae together with C. origanifolium and C. niveum, form the same monophyletic clade with a bootstrap value of 78%. As a result of phylogenetic analyses, C. tulayae was separated from C. glabrescens. The morphological characteristics of the new species are discussed based on differences and similarities with closely related species. Its diagnosis, description, habitat details, distribution map, identification key, and IUCN Red List categorization are also provided.
