No randomized controlled treatment trials have been completed in children with stroke. We researched thrombophylic risk factors in 29 patients aged I to 23 years (mean 9,81 6,25) and evaluated the efficacy of prophylactic treatment. We found I genetic risk factor in 5 patients, 2 genetic risk factors in 11 patients, 3 genetic risk factors in 5 patients and 6 genetic risk factors in I patient. The patient who was being followed up with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome died at fourth ischemic stroke attack under anticoagulant therapy. One patient died because of lymphoma. In mean 5,34 4,07 years of follow up period (1-15 years) recurrence was not seen in 27 patients. We didn't give prophylaxis to 26 patients. Children with congenital risk factors should receive short-term prophylactic anticoagulation in high risk situations, but the efficacy of long - term prophylactic treatment in pediatric stroke is not certain.
