Abstract

This work compares the characteristics and performance of self-tuning control with linear and non linear models. Two types of non linear and linear self-tuning PID controllers were implemented to control the optimal temperature on predetermined trajectories in a batch jacketed polymerisation reactor. The linear and non linear self tuning PID are computer control algorithms use a linear model which is ARMAX and a non lineal model which is written as NARMAX. It is shown that the non linear self-tuning control algorithm gives better results that the linear self-tuning control algorithm.
