Özet

The use of noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIV) in the treatment of acute respiratory failure in the hospital setting has increased in the last 15–20 years. Similarly, the frequency of long-term, home NIV use is gradually increasing in chronic respiratory failure patients. Home mechanical ventilation is defined as performing daily ventilation for more than 3 months from tracheostomy or noninvasively at home or in another nursing home outside the hospital. Home NIV treatment is primarily used in obstructive pulmonary diseases, neuromuscular disease, obesity hypoventilation syndrome and restrictive chest wall diseases. In this section, we will examine the features of long-term non-invasive ventilation at home in different etiologies of respiratory failure.
