Downy mildew disease caused by Plasmopara viticola is one of the most important problems of viticulture. The aim of this study was to determine the reactions of some grape cultivars against downy mildew disease under natural infection conditions. This was done through evaluating 21 grape cultivars based on the severity of downy mildew disease (%) in vineyard of Tekirdag Viticulture Research Institute through the years of 2016 and 2017. It was determined that the disease severity of the cultivars was varied between the years and there were significant differences among the cultivars. However, the disease severities of the cultivars were not high due to the lack of sufficient rainfall during the flowering period in the evaluation years. The highest disease severities of 14.00% and 10.25% in 2016 and 2017, respectively, were observed in 'Cabernet Sauvignon'. 'Isabella' exhibited the lowest disease severity; the disease severities in this cultivar were 0% and 0.50%, respectively, for two consecutive years. 'Semillion' with the disease severities of 0.75% and 0.25%, 'Yapincak' with 1.25% and 1.00%, and 'Recel Uzumu' with 0.25% and 2.50% in 2016 and 2017, respectively, followed 'Isabella'. There was no relationship between disease severity and some ampelographic characteristics such as fruit ripening time, berry color and leaf hairiness. This study includes the first data for susceptibility of 17 grapevine cultivars ('Sultani Cekirdeksiz', 'Cavus', 'Muskule', 'Baris', 'Yalova Incisi', 'Bozbey', 'Cardinal', 'Recel Uzumu', 'Tekirdag Cekirdeksizi', 'Guzgulu', 'Yapincak', 'Chardonnay', 'Semillion', 'Gamay', 'Kalecik Karasi', 'Papaz Karasi' and 'Cinsaut') to downy mildew disease under natural infection conditions.
