The objectives of this study were to the determine the presence of Enterococcus spp. in cow mastitis and to characterize the isolated strains using molecular techniques. A total of 75 Enterococcus spp. isolated from dairy farms in Ankara and Balikesir cities were examined. Sixty-one Enterococcus faecium and 14 Enterococcus avium strains were identified according to Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism-Polymerase Chain Reaction results. Additionally different 10 and 7 Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA-Polymerase Chain Reaction profiles were detected in E. faecium and E. avium strains, respectively. These finding showed the importance and the role of Enterococcus spp. in cow mastitis.
