Abstract

Over 3000 consecutive hernias have been classified according to type, age, and sex. The causes of recurrence are not discussed. In inguinal hernias there was no recurrence under 17 yr of age. The recurrence rate of repairing a double hernia at one session was 35.5%. The indirect inguinal hernia type recurrence rate was higher than the direct type (67.6%). The direct hernia was not as rare in females and children as might be expected. The overall mortality was 0.39%.
