Since the introduction of short lived radionucleids into nuclear medicine the identification of space occupying lesions in brain has become more accurate. Apart from the usual hyperactive area indicative of an intracerebral space occupying lesion, a circular hyperactive area with a hypoactive central part, similar to a doughnut was found. Until now only 17 cases with this 'doughnut sign' have been published in the world literature. The 7 cases encountered by the authors in 1972 are presented.
