Özet

In 21st century, the museum is the primary source of development and an institution which follows the change in the cultural industry. Museums, diversify their functions through traditional and contemporary approaches, are not only responsible for preservation, conservation and display through contemporary methods and education but also to revitalize and promote cultural heritage in the direction of innovative educational approaches, and to develop strategies to ensure cultural sustainability. In the context of inclusive museological functions, the main purpose of museum education is to establish museum culture in society, to develop individual and social awareness to museum and to provide recognition of museum education. The number and variety of private and public museums in Turkey, has increased notably. The significance of museums in education is emphasized in the national and international literature on culture and arts education since the 20th century. Museum have been used as learning environments in Turkey since 1990 and one of the official areas of cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Ministry of Education. This study purposes to explore the history of museum education in Turkey and to put forward variable proposals on the future of discipline. In this context, the study is limited to the three subtitles: Early years in the Republican Period (1923-1960), the period between 1960-2000 and the period after 2000. Study discusses the future designs of museum education reflecting on education policies and practices the impact of academic developments in the field of museology and compliance with museums of contemporary function in Turkey.
