Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, vol.86, no.2, pp.158, 2005 (SCI-Expanded)
2002 was the most unusual winter yet observed in the SH stratosphere. In addition to September warming, temperatures near the edge of the antarctic polar vortex were warmer than normal over the entire winter. The polar night jet was weaker than normal and was displaced more poleward than has been observed in previous winters. The combined effect of all these events was the smallest ozone hole sinze 1988.
