Abstract
© 2018 by Türkiye Klinikleri. Objective:Ibuprofen is an hydrophobic active ingredient which is used for analgesic and antipyretic purposes. The aim of the study is to prepare chitosan films containing ibuprofen with controlled release and investigate the effect of concentration and molecular weight of chitosan and polyethyleneglycol (PEG) on the in vitro release of ibuprofen. Material and Methods: For this purpose, the films obtained by solvent evaporation method were cross-linked in a tripolyphosphate (TPP) solution and the in vitro release studies were examined using static method in a medium containing pH 7.2 phosphate buffer. Data obtained from in vitro drug release studies were plotted in various kinetic models: zero order, Higuchi and Korsmeyer-Peppas models. Results: As a result of this study, it has been found that the ibuprofen release is decreased by the increase of the chitosan concentration and molecular weight. The in vitro release rate of ibuprofen is decreased with an increasing the amount of PEG and with decreasing the molecular weight of PEG used as a plasticizer in the films. Conclusion: In the study, it has been observed that controlled release films of ibuprofen can be prepared by controlling the parameters while preparing the chitosan films.
